Background The Natomas Community Foundation was officially founded as a tax-deductible, nonprofit public charity corporation on January 27, 2005. However, the need for such an organization has been in existence for many years. In the last eight years, the Natomas region has seen a dramatic increase in population and businesses, but not in services offered.
Longtime Natomas residents and other community activists recognized this dilemma and banded together to provide a voice that would reach local businesses and government agencies. Through a generous donation from K.Hovanian Homes, the Natomas Community Foundation was able to begin serving the needs of the region. In June 2006, the Natomas Community Foundation named Devin Knott as Executive Director of the Foundation, while Bob Moreno remained as President. Currently, the Foundation has 11 members on its Board of Directors and a strong alliance with other Natomas agencies.
The Foundation believes that it can make a difference in the lives of every Natomas resident. In the last few months it has undertaken the following initiatives: Gardenland Northgate Beautification Project Phase 1, the Natomas Founders Day Run presented by Comcast, Free Eyeware for qualifying Natomas residents, offered ten (10) $1,000 scholarships to Natomas and Grant Union High School seniors, and being the focal point for distributing SAFELY OUT Packets to Natomas residents. Check our Upcoming Events section to learn about future NCF projects.
Future of the Foundation The Foundation will be expanding its staff and budget in 2007 and undertaking bigger projects and programs to meet the needs of the Natomas community. With an expected increase in population and businesses to the area, the Foundation will be uncovering ways to pull other agencies together that will make a difference for all of us. It is our hope that the Foundation can be aware of the happenings and capabilities of every public and private organization in the Natomas community to accurately plan ahead for future endeavors.
