Safely Out Kits Distribution
On Wednesday, January 30 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and on Thursday January 31 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the Natomas Community Foundation will be working with the City of Sacramento and the Heritage Park Neighborhood Association to distribute Safely Out Kits to the residents of Heritage Park. The distribution will take place at the Heritage Park Clubhouse. During this time, training sessions will take place every 30 minutes on how to use the kits and Jake Ice, from Farmers Insurance will be on hand to answer any questions that you have regarding flood insurance. At this time, only residents of this area will be allowed to participate in the pick up. Other areas of Natomas will receive their Safely Out Kits in the near future. SAFELY OUTª is a project of Citizen Voice, developed in partnership with the Red Cross Ð Sacramento Sierra Chapter, to ensure that our most vulnerable citizens -- including the disabled, frail seniors, young children and more -- are protected during a disaster. They enable easy access to critical emergency information along with a leave-behind alert system that allows the person to call for help and then notifies relatives and first responders where that person has been evacuated to.

2nd Annual Natomas Founders Day Run
On Sunday, March 2, the Natomas Community Foundation and the Natomas Historical Society are teaming together to host the 2nd Annual Natomas Founders Day 10K/5K Run and Walk. The race will start at 9:00 am sharp at the Natomas Promenade and will be followed by Free Kids Run for children up to the age of 10. Proceeds from this event will be used to fund scholarships for local high school seniors. This is a flat, fast course that will help runners and walkers of all abilities to get the best time possible. Commemorative t-shirts will be available to all runners and prizes will be given to those who place in the top 3 in each division. Every child will also receive a t-shirt and ribbon for participating. Afterwards, nearby restaurants will be on hand for you to sample their menu and local musical favorites the Natomas Tornados will entertain you with their upbeat and recognizable classics. If you are interested in running or even volunteering you can contact the Foundation at 916-285-9909 or email us at

Free Swim Lessons
For the 2nd year in a row, the Natomas Community Foundation is offering free swimming lessons to residents of Natomas. This program is in response to the numerous drowning fatalities that occurred in 2006 in the Sacramento County and to the incredible response that we receive from last year. The classes will take place this summer at Natomas High School and at Northgate Park. Specific classes are currently being outlined. Just like last year, a free ice cream social will take place to kick-off the program. Only residents of Natomas and their children qualify for the program.
